Working for an eligible employer

On April 1, 2011, new regulations affecting Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program came into force.  More

Allowable duration of work in Canada

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program enables Canadian employers to hire TFWs on a temporary basis to fill immediate skills and labour shortages when Canadians and permanent residents are not available.

The cumulative duration regulation establishes a maximum allowable duration of four years that a temporary foreign worker can work in Canada, followed by a period of four years in which the worker would not be eligible to work in Canada. It takes effect April 1, 2011 for all TFWs; therefore, the earliest date that a TFW could reach the four-year cumulative duration is April 1, 2015. More

Temporary Foreign Worker Program

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) work to ensure that the employment of foreign workers supports economic growth and helps create more opportunities for all Canadians. More

A tribute to Carmencita “Ging” Hernandez

Yesterday, December 19, 2011, Carmencita “Ging” Hernandez, was laid to rest. A special tribute and celebration of her life was held in her honour. For one last time, Ging, brought her all friends and colleagues together to rekindle and find lost friendships: friends who have grown apart; friends who have not seen each other for a while; for one last time, Ging, waved her magic.

Much have been said/written about Ging’s accomplishments and how she was the silent driving energy behind some relevant mass actions on issues that impacted the Filipino community and other minority groups. The many recognitions and awards she received for these efforts were testaments to her  generous heart and passionate commitment to serve the vulnerable peoples.

Kababayan Community Centre benefitted from Ging’s untiring love and passion to help her kababayans in Toronto. Across 20 years, Ging held various volunteer positions within the organization. She led the centre in remarkable community actions among  which were the struggle against racism again Filipinos youth in  Scarborough Town Centre, in 1993; and fighting the suspension of Filipino youth in the Northview Secondary School in 1994.

It will take a novel to document what Ging has done for the community. This short note does not suffice. Ging you are missed specially your gentle, calm disposition and unassuming demeanor.  May you find the peace and happiness you deserve.
